Chapter Programs to Get a Boost
First, we would like to welcome new member D. Wayne Ammons to SME Chapter 82. Then we want to congratulate and thank him for getting engaged in the chapter right away.  Wayne attended our board meeting last month and has agreed to help out with program planning and delivery, taking over for John Beierwaltes, our program chair since 2003 and Webmaster (and SME Membership Consultant for all of NC). Of course, John and the rest of the executive board will still be involved, but this will provide some needed focus. Wayne has called together a “group of passionate and faithful individuals who have a sincere interest in the dynamic growth of 082” to best determine how to meet the needs of our customers…that’s you our members! Please help Wayne and the committee by providing your feedback regarding your wants and needs. Future programs will be developed to meet those needs. Thanks again Wayne and good luck!

Review of Sandvik Tour Feb 26th
On February 26th, Jon Barber, General Manager of Sandvik Tool Supply Mebane gave us an in-depth look at Sandvik’s “soft tooling” operation (milling cutters, tool holders, etc.). We thank Jon for opening up his facility and sharing his team’s lean culture with us. From heat treat to turning to 5-axis machining to packaging and shipping, all parts of the operation were impressive, including the people. This was also one of the cleanest machining plants we have ever seen. We can see why this is Sandvik’s best performing facility of this type. Thanks again, Jon!
